Walk To End Alzheimer's Portsmouth

This was my first experience at this powerful walk. It was a culmination of those who are caring for those with Alzheimer’s, those who’ve lost someone to the disease and those who have the disease. Everyone holds up a different flower to symbolize in what way this disease has affected them. As we know, there is no cure. There isn’t even a cure on the horizon. That’s why raising money and awareness about this disease is critical. Alzheimer’s can destroy families. I have seen it first hand. Even if we can’t cure it, the impact of educating people who care for those affected on how to interact and treat them in the most respectful manner is crucial. Starting with families and moving to aides and nurses in skilled nursing facilities would make such a difference.

Being able to honor all those I have cared for and lost, as well as my Grandmother who lived with the disease of Alzheimer’s for more than 15 years meant a lot to me. It meant a lot to have my daughter there also. I may not see a cure to Alzheimer’s in my lifetime, but maybe she will. That’s what I hope and pray for.
